GALLERY 142: REDDISH EGRET
Reddish Egrets can be readily photographed in Florida. These birds are interesting to observe while fishing. When fish are at their feet, they stand exceedingly still staring into the water until an unlucky fish comes into range. With lightening speed, they extract their meal from the water. Reddish Egrets are known for their "dance." They burst into a run through the shallows first in one direction and then off in another. This is done to get fish moving so they can be visualized. The birds also shade the water with uplifted wing, in order to improve their view of the fish below.
