GALLERY 212: Great Horned Owls 2015
2015 was another interesting year for following the local owls. The 2014 season provided several nests with multiple pairs of adults and many owlets to photograph. I was not able to follow as many nests in 2015. Some of the trees providing nest sites in 2014 were not reused in 2015. Further, at least two nest sites failed with the owls leaving the nests after failure of eggs to hatch. A cold snap in early March may have been responsible for nest failures. One nest site has become so well known in the Twin Cities area that park security was put in place, complete with police tape, to manage the large crowds of people that gather to observe the owls nesting. I visited this particular location only once in 2015 because the conditions were not favorable for photography. Shown here are my favorite two dozen photos, out of thousands, taken of Great Horned Owls during the 2015 nesting season.
