GALLERY 33: SEA OTTER
The Sea Otter is one of the most popular and likeable species of marine mammals. They capture our attention not only with their cute whisker covered faces, but also with their playful behaviors. Sea Otters can be observed in harbors, trailing fishing boats and in kelp beds in the wild and are commonly on display at larger aquariums. Their use of a rock held on their chest to break open shell fish has fascinated scientists while at the same time, providing yet another example of a non-human animal using tools. I have had very few opportunities to photograph this marvelous water mammal, but hope to spend more time with the Sea Otter in the future.
